Direct Selective Laser Sintering and Containerless Hot Isostatic Pressing for High Performance Metal Components
نویسندگان
چکیده
A novel net shape manufacturing method known as SLSIHIP that combines the strengths of selective laser sintering (SLS) and hot isostatic pressing (HIP) is presented. Direct selective laser sintering is a rapid manufacturing technique that can produce high density metal components of complex geometry with an integral, gas impermeable skin. These components can then be directly post-processed to full density by containerless HIP. The advantages of in-situ HIP encapsulation include elimination of a secondary container material and associated container-powder interaction, reduced pre-processing time, a short HIP cycle and reduction in post-processing steps compared to HIP of canned parts. Results of research conducted on Inconel 625 superalloy, Ti-6AI-4V and Monel are presented. This research is funded by DARPAlONR contract N00014-95-C0139 titled "Low Cost Metal Processing Using SLSIHIP".

EFFECTS OF HOT ISOSTATIC PRESSING ON THE TENSILE PROPERTIES OF A356 CAST ALLOY
The influences of age hardening and HIP (Hot Isostatic Pressing) on the mechanical properties of A356 (Al 7Si 0.6 Mg) casting alloys were studied. Cast bars were homogenized, heated and maintained at a temperature of 540°C for a duration of 2 hours, followed by rapid cooling in a polymeric solution. The castings were age hardened at 180°C for a duration of 4 hours before being subjected to HIP ...

متن کاملEffects of the Hot Isostatic Pressing Process on Crack Healing of the Laser Repair-Welded CM247LC Superalloy
This study investigated the effects of the hot isostatic pressing process on the crack healing, microstructure, and mechanical properties of the laser repair-welded CM247LC precipitation-hardened superalloy. To ensure the strength of the repair-welded area, this study used the direct re-melting approach, and simulated the repair welding with the filler addition, which has a chemical composition...
متن کاملComparison of Creep Behavior in Alumina Based Ceramics Densified by Spark Plasma Sintering and Hot Pressing
Spark plasma sintering (SPS) method, as plasma activated sintering, is a method applicable for rapid sintering of metals and ceramics. Owing to the advantage of rapid heating, the alumina ceramics obtained by SPS have a grain size and density comparable to those of hot pressed ones. The increase of densification rate may be related to some difference in ion transport characteristics. This study...
